Shelter Renovation and Construction

The majority of IDPs in Rakhine live in collective (8 to 10 rooms) shelters called ‘long house’, which were originally built in 2012-13 as a temporary measure, designed to last for only two years. Unless we repair or renovate these shelters, there is a danger of collapse and IDPs be evacuated and live on plain grounds. For maintaining and renovating the shelter, MA-UK is has renovated and constructed new shelter and now is the process of renovating more shelter in 5 Muslim camps in Sittwe.
We’ve intervened and built three shelters so far, completely renewing the old ones. There is a plan to build more shelters on upcoming year and beyond.
